I wrote this list of what I believe, called
'Fancy This Or Fancy That', in 2011, when I first opened Toscano Interiors.
This list is still what I stand behind 13 years later
...children should be seen, heard and celebrated for their innate wonderfulness AND allowed on the sofa.
...chocolate is the opposite of evil and should be eaten often and with wild abandon. .
...eating breakfast by candlelight is lovely
...kindness, above all, is the greatest and most beautiful accessory.
...pale pink ceilings make you look good naked.
...a light heart lives long. {w. shakespeare}
....in Dorothy Draper, Miles Redd, Ina Garten, Elsie de Wolfe, Sister Parish, Iris Apfel, Charlo Moss, Bunny Williams, Albert Hadley and Christian Dior.
...wallpaper is alive and well - and I can't get enough of the stuff.
...in allowing for, even gleefully hoping for, those serendipitous surprises in the design process which truly allow the "magic" to happen.
...you should be nobody but yourself - in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. {e.e. cummings}
...in pretty, old, worn and faded rugs - anytime, anywhere.
...your children's artwork, no matter if you can tell what it is or not, makes really great art when framed.
...in using reds and greens together year-round. After all, what's better than Christmas?
...fashion is where you find it.
...in building rooms around personal pieces and cherished family heirlooms.
...finding your new Gucci pumps chewed by the dog offers a great life lesson... on the {un}important stuff.
...every room could benefit from a touch of chinoiserie, a bit of red, an interesting animal print and always, candles.
...you should use your good silver and linen napkins everyday. Life is short - what are you waiting for?
