If your living room lacks excitement, then you should consider adding a rug to your room and your problem will be solved. A rug completes a room by binding all the pieces inside your room together visually. A rug has the ability to anchor and define any room, add fervor as well as puts a layer in the room’s decoration. Holly Clark, from Land Of Rugs, shares her trade secrets when it comes to choosing the right rug for your living room. Below are 5 great interior design tips for living room area rugs that will help you to decorate your living room and add the required zeal to your room. 1. Pick the Right Size and Pattern of Your Rug The first thing you have to consider while buying a rug for your living room is the rug’s size. In case of a living room, it should be longer or at least the same size as your sofa. If you are considering to put a rug under the dining table, then you should keep in mind that there is not only a table but also chairs as well. So, you need to pick a rug with a larger margin to move all those chairs back out of the rug. You also need to consider the pattern of your rug that suits your living room and the furniture in it. Rugs are available in various patterns i.e. rectangular, round, oval, square, etc. 2. Pick the Ideal Material of Your Living Room Rug You must choose the material of your rug based on the room as well as your finances. For places like entrance, you should look for a bamboo rug, which is easy to sustain and extremely resistant. If you are looking to put a rug in your child’s room, then you should look for materials like acrylic, polyester or polypropylene that are easier to clean due to their synthetic nature. If you want to walk barefooted, look for a furry or long-haired rug to boost the soft feeling on the bottom of your feet. 3. Pick the Perfect Color and Design of Your Rug Another important criteria for picking a rug for your living room is its design and its color. It primarily depends upon how you see it. Is it just an element of comfort or a designer item inside your living room? For the first condition, you can look for something plain in color and less flashy. For the second condition, you can look for some distinct patterns and hues that display your personality. 4. Pick the Ideal Thickness of Your Rug When you decide to buy a rug for your living room, you have to consider the rug’s pile or its thickness. Low-pile rugs are more suited to high-traffic areas of your room as it can withstand more wear-and-tear and easier to clean. High-pile rugs are best for areas with less foot traffic. You have to decide which kind of rug is best suited for your living room based on the amount of traffic it gets. 5. Pick the Ideal Sheen of Your Rug Another important criterion for picking a rug for living room that often gets neglected it the sheen of the rug’s fabric. A rug with high sheen fabric will give your room a luxury touch as well as brighten up the room.

9/14/2019
This week in our Organize Your Home Challenge, we tackled what I find to be the difficult rooms in a house- the kid's rooms.
I truly believe organization is a skill that can be taught, because let’s face it, It is not some inborn trait that you are born with or not born with. It is also a habit that can be developed. Just like we teach our children to ride a bike, swim, and eating healthy- so too organization can become part of children’s lives as an important habit. To help our children become skilled in organization means that we first have to provide them with an organized environment. The main reason we are here doing this challenge! *high five Because that is our job as parents, right? To scaffold and support our children as they grow and develop the skills they need to become happy and functioning adults. I shared my 7 tips for decluttering and organizing kids rooms with our Facebook group, and the results our members have been sharing this week are amazing! Are you struggling with your kid's room? Need some extra helpful tips and support from other parents like you? Join us over at my Facebook group for only $27! Purge Your Closets The Right Way
9/1/2019
As my Organize Your Entire Home, A 10-Week Challenge begins, the first thing we MUST address are closets! The first disclaimer I have is- you need to set aside some time to address whatever closet you are tackling, because being interrupted half way through is going to cause even more anxiety because of the mess you are about to create. So with that out of the way, let's get started. You are going to need a flat surface, so make your bed first (that is if you are working on a closet in a bedroom with a bed) Now remove everything from your closet....yes, everything! And if you have piles of laundry anywhere; wash it and fold it and add it to the mix! Once your clothing is OUT, you are going to go through each item, one at a time, and sort each clothing item into one of three piles: KEEP. Things you LOVE, that you wear regularly, that fit properly, and that are in good condition. These are the clothing items that truly bring you joy. But what if you haven’t worn something for a while but “think” you still LOVE it, then try it on! Make sure. Take the time now or you will be redoing this crazy shit in a month! Yu've got to go with your first reaction, here is the key. Do you feel super amazing when you wear it? Does it make you look incredible? Is your heart happy? Then keep it! Are you not sure about it? It's got to go! Seriously. I may bring someone else happiness, move on. TOSS. Items that are ripped or torn, stained, or unclean-ably stinky. Just let it go, even if it’s been a long time favorite! DONATE. Items in good repair that you know you don’t wear, don’t love, that don’t fit, or that you no longer need. This pile is a little more difficult in making a decision to keep or let go. Do not keep something out of a vague sense of guilt; because it is still in good shape but you don’t wear it; or because it was expensive so you can’t let it go, but it's time to let it go. What is it really serving? It's not serving anything, it's just taking up space! If you are like me you may change out your closet wth the seasons, so you store those items until it's time for them to come out. If this is you, get those clothes out to and apply the same tips. Another helpful tip if you're a clothes hoarder like I comfortably admit to being, something I do every time I purchase something new- whether it's a new top, dress, shoes- I donate 3 things for every one new thing I add to my closet. This has helped tremendously cut down the amount of clutter in my closet. Keeping your wardrobe to a reasonable level will mean that you never overcrowd your closets, dressers, and bedroom again. Because we really don’t want to end up back where we started, do we? I know I don’t! For more tips on how to organize your closets, join the discussion on Facebook, by joining my 10-week challenge. It's only $27 for the entire 10 weeks, and you can begin anytime! |
